Where have I been? Well, I am in the midst of finals and for a graduate student that pretty much means a lot of bad food, not a lot of sleep and a whole lot of stress but one of the good things about having to spend a considerable amount of time at one of my favorite coffee shops, The Living Room. I’m one of those need to step away from home people. I can’t concentrate with the television going, three dogs terrorizing each other, laundry to do, and bathrooms to clean. Nope I need the distraction of a new environment where the total purpose of my presence it to focus on my assignments.
The Living Room is actually an old 50s style house the converted into a coffee shop and it still has that feel. There are eclectic art pieces some of which are from local artists and available for purchase. The tables and chair are a well loved pastiche of hand me downs and garage sale finds. And to top it off they are open from 6am to at least 1am everyday which makes it an ideal study place. Guy and I tend to make breakfast days out of it. I study, he catches up on all the new techy news and we share a pot of (decaf) Earl Grey tea and a two egg breakfast with sourdough toast, scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese, country potatoes and four slices of bacon. The whole thing, which is enough for both of us to fill up on, costs a whole $5.82 and so breakfast, with tea and tip is about $10. They have free Wifi, good food, attentive service and as many free hot water free refills for our teapot as we want. While I do love this place, unfortunately I’m not the only one so it can be pretty busy at times, especially during finals. Other than that I have very few complaints. And I’m thinking that I will be spending quite a few more hours there before my semester is out on May 18th.
